For the Common Good

I find myself in I Corinthians for my devotions at present.  As I was reading through Chapter 12,  I was challenged with the concept of "Spiritual Gifts".  Verses 6&7 read,
"There are varieties of effects but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." (emphasis mine)
God has equipped us to help others.  Our gifts, and our abilities for that matter, are not for us, but for others.  Ultimately, they are for God, and to glorify Him.  We are the ones who labor in the local church.  If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you help to make up the Body of Christ.  That is not a "free ride".  Along with being a child of God comes responsibilities.  These responsibilities we have been specifically equipped for by God - "for the common good."
So, whatever God has/is asking you to do in your local church, do it! But do not do it for yourself.  Do it for others.  Do it for your Saviour.
